Welcome Home Obi

he has peed and pooped outside, he is absolutely adorable. He really is like a baby, he runs and plays outside for 15 minutes with my kids and then immediately takes a nap. Tonight is the first night in his new home, lets hope he likes it and mommy gets some sleep.

Resolution Run 5k race report

So over the last few days I twisted my lower back putting christmas boxes away, staying up and getting up multiple times a night to give my daughter her medications and I was feeling a bit tired, that being said the prediction that the temps were going to be in the 50's for a January running race was very compelling and my need to just go and run was super high. I also love going to running races because I usually know nobody and I get to be alone in my thoughts and just go do my thing and leave.

After my kids basketball games in the morning I headed down to Lexington for the Resolution 5k road race, I have to say even though it started 15 minutes late, it was well run, tons of parking, great support on the course and lots of vendors at the end, it was great. The weather was getting warmer by the minute, most people had the tights on, long sleeves, hats and gloves, I was wearing shorts and a tank top and boy was I glad that is what I wore, it got up to 60 degrees out there and I was wearing the perfect outfit for that.

The course was good, they said it was all flat on the course description, it wasn't but it wasn't hilly either, it had some inclines, maybe 2-3% for 1/4 of a mile or so and then it would descend a bit, they had people giving out mile times at mile 1 and 2 which was nice and it was chipped timed. All I was told by coachie was to give it all I had, well, feeling like I was going to puke I guess I gave it all I had. Mile 1 was 7.01 on my watch but the girl called out 7.08 to me, I hit mile 2 at 14:08 I believe and then all I know is that the last quarter mile running into the finish I averaged a 5:54 pace. There was an incline of about 3-4% with 1/2 mile to go and I saw my time start to drop so when I crested the top and knew I had only a quarter to go I just gave it all I had. 22:06:08, 7:06 pace. Cool runnings has me at 22:07 with a 7:07 pace, so pretty close. I ran the Frosty 5k on December 11th in 22:36 with avg pace on my watch 7:12, via coolrunnings it was a 7:16. I PRd on the 11th of December and I PR'd by 30 seconds yesterday. It was the first time I placed in my age group in a running race, 3rd and I was either 13th or 14th overall female, I'll take it for a 43 year old lady.

I still don't like running 5ks, they are very hard, feeling that way puts me in a very uncomfortable place but I'm getting used to it and if I can keep improving I'm hoping to go sub 7's sometime this year. 5k's are not my goal I'm a distance runner but it would be nice to PR all distances while I'm training for ironman.

Anyhoo, a little recovery bike and run later and we pick up Obi today, hope you guys have a great one.

Christmas 2011 in pictures....

We had a great Christmas in our new house, it was a beautiful day, the kids were happy, parents were happy and the weather was beautiful. I was able to go for my long run, the kids played with all their toys for many hours, what could be better. Some of my favorite pictures of the day were of the view from our house and the amazing steam coming off the water and of course of my family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

This makes my daughter happy when she's so sick...

This is Obi ( our new name for our pup, short for, Obi One Kanobi from Star Wars). He is not a little man anymore, by the looks of it he's going to be quite big. I already love him and so does my daughter. AFter almost a month of her not feeling well and then over the last 5 days being in and out of the doctors office and ER these pictures put a smile on her face. Love you Shea, hope you feel better.

The other picture is of Obi and his two sisters, it was a very small litter unfortunately and the dad died right after he did the job with the mom, he was 10. At least Terminator went out happy.
